I've been super stoked about these first weeks on smoke.io.
Lots of new faces, lots of content. Exciting times!
One thing that has been really nice is the curation that's capable. With the different percentages compared to steem this should be interesting to watch as it plays out.
I know I'm loving curation
During this week I had somewhere between 500-650 SP with a vote worth somewhere between 0.030-0.070 depending on my SP/VP at the time.
As you can see, when I curate something that gets a lot of traction I can earn upwards of six times what my voting value was. ie. Getting that 0.321 from @mjgeeks' post when I had around maybe 0.050 (iirc) vote worth means I got around 6.42x my vote back!
So far this has been my best curation (iirc, I could have even better in the first week):
I'm not sure what my vote value was on this, but I think it was around 0.040...That means I made nearly, or more than, 10x my vote value just because I spotted a quality post by @bluntsmasha!
The Moral: Even if you're greedy, you don't want to self-vote!
I'm not even "maximizing" any kind of curation strategy, I'm just watching the Lastest & Greatest Posts and upvoting things that look good and strike my own interest. If I only self-voted and my vote was worth 0.070 all the time, I would only be able to self-vote for 4.900-ish smoke for the week. Yet, without even trying I hit around 4.700 in returns for the week (with VP less than maximum), without any shame!
Knowing this I personally feel that self-votes are a waste, and would promote everyone to spend their VP on others, it can literally come back to you several times more.
