My view on Reputation and how to grow it

last year

I have seen a few people talking about leveling up

There are many users on the platform that have been here for a few months but have not leveled up yet. Some of those users have good content but they are leveling up slower than others who have been here for the same amount of time. Many are confused to why that is, and one of the things I have learned from other blockchain and even ad based social media sites that paid (yep the blockchain isn't doing anything new, here there were other internet based ad sites that paid in the early days of the internet till the sites stopped it, but it was pennies compared to the blockchain). Is first and foremost that quality over quantity is king.

The other things I have learned

Is that commenting relevant comments shows you have read the piece don't comment spam, if you comment a few words that are generic all the time it doesn't encourage engagement so you don't end up with the engagement it takes to level up your reputation. So take the time to read and comment relevant comments, if you can't think of anything to add to the conversation upsmoke and move on to another article where you can add value to the conversation. Nice post isn't a comment, it is comment spam.

Posting photos, it is important to post photos with your articles, but even more importantly they should be your own photos. If they are stock photos you need to credit the photo of where you got it, because you are making rewards on this site, and to do other wise is content theft don't be a content thief. If you still content and it doesn't matter if it is photos or words, you won't do well here because you will be found out. And Plagiarism is not cool in any form. And that brings me to Self Plagiarism, I am not talking about Ongoing contests. I am talking about people who are copying and pasting the same content across many platforms. If you copy and paste and you have been on the blockchain for a while, you know why you are still a 25 rep, because you are not putting effort in on the site. You care more about rewards than people. If you have done these things all is not lost.

You can do better

Post photos with your pieces, don't copy and paste your smoke content elsewhere. You will do better if it is a Smoke.io Exclusive. Comment on more articles than you create. Curate content and word count does matter. Try to make sure what ever you post photos or videos about to write at least 500 words about the photo or video you have posted. It will help you grow your rep. I been here 7 weeks now and I have leveled my rep up 8 times already. So if I can do it using these steps I have laid out anyone can.

That's great advice @tecnosgirl, I just leveled up to 26 yesterday. I don't know if I could come up with 500 words for every post, for some the words just don't come that easy. But you are 100% correct, more is better, the proof is in your posts and rep. Thanks for sharing and bong on. :-)

·

I think if you have a 'voice' in the community then you're doing alright.

Someone in the #abuse channel in the discord was asking how to spot 'respun' articles. And really, by the time that you're investigating a suspicious article you kind of already know. It's stuff clearly not written for any specific audience. They easily hit 500 words or more, but it's filler garbage that literally no one reads (which helps the spammer)

In comparison, your posts definitely feel like they were written with smoke.io as the intended audience. You definitely got me engaged with your questions about if I smoke around family, recently.

As far as why your posts don't get more traction, I would guess because it is more Q&A and less Show&Tell.

For one thing, I appreciate people that vote responsibly more than anything right now. You're someone I've seen make good votes so I hope you'll continue and help guide the community. I use certain people's votes as 'markers,' and even though you're not a whale, you've proven more responsible than some whales.

Thanks for that I appreciate the feedback, I am very keen to see smoke.i.o grow and prosper and will try to add as much as I can to grow the platform. The only issue I have is if your not an expert in the field of cannabis it quite difficult to pump out high quality content every day to try and get noticed. So I think you can't go to militant on new people, otherwise you will just scare them away. Other than that The people and content is top notch in my opinion, thanks mate and bong on bro. :-)

·

Heh I hit 26 rep recently too, just spotted it 🎉

I've been commenting and curating quite a lot without an increased rep, I think posting threads which get upvoted highly is the fastest way to a greater rep.

·
·

Posting daily also helps. Normally I get 2 posts in a day but sometimes I am really inspired and get more in. But I comment way more than posting a new thread.

·
·

I think you should be a lot higher than 26 for all you do for everyone, thanks mate and bong on bro. :-)

you know why you are still a 25 rep, because you are not putting effort in on the site.

Thank you! Well said. We've all probably been mulling over how to improve the site.
More people with expertise would be nice, and less content that's here as a plus one to all the other blockchains would probably be a benefit. We need to stand out, be unique, be a place to be.
Our trending page is still rather put together. That's a good sign. Lots of things to be proud of there.
It makes it an even tougher sell to get people to sign up and post if they can't tell we're a cannabis community.

I've seen conversations by some accounts that imply that they don't understand someone can have expertise with cannabis. Oh boy. The learning curve on this for some people is going to be amazing.

·

I may not have put everything in the best of words but I hope it helps improves some of the content on the site so we have exclusive work on here.

I must admit, I've been wondering about the reputation score here on smoke. I still don't really know how it works.
I'm one of those people who doesn't have a lot of content directly related to cannabis culture, so a fair amount of my posts are around the edges of of the primary focus. Most of what I post on steemit doesn't translate very well to smoke, so I don't cross post very much at all. Almost all of my posts on smoke were written specifically for the smoke platform, using my own pictures. Of course, not having very much cannabis related content means that I don't post on smoke every day, so my growth here is pretty slow. Still, I enjoy posting content on smoke.

·

Quality interaction and comments that get upsmoked because they are quality counts just as much as posting.

Honestly I do my best to add value here, may it be posts or comments. I do not post everyday as I have no time but if i post I generally speak my mind. I use original photos in my posts and every word written is coming from my brain and not google ;) (Except for the last post about common grow terminologies but I cited the reference) Maybe I need to be more active and post more to increase my rep. Apart from telling how active the person is on the network, what good does the rep do? Sorry for noob question I was never into steem to know these things.

·

Rep helps credibility. As your rep grows so do your followers naturally without the follow 4 follow. I personally want people to follow me because they like my content not because I am following them. Because if one doesn't like my content then they won't read it and if they don't read it then Inhave no audience. So in my experience rep help one grow followers naturally as it says you are a trusted source.

I don't put much stock into reputation.

Look at @cathodion

29 Reputation.

Constantly posts plagiarism trying to commit fraud against the blockchain. Had to be removed from the cannasseur program at least once due to abuse.

·
·
·

In the long run it will hurt him. People that constantly do plagiarism might get short-term gains but in the long run it will hurt them. Because once the word gets out that they are plagiarizing people will stop voting the crap and they will start flagging it. Smoke.io is still new because of that there are some people that have rep'ed up by doing plagiarism but it will not last they will lose their reputation and they will quit making as much money on the blockchain. It happened on steemit and other blockchains it will happen here too as the blockchain won't put up with it for an extended period of time.

I'm not calling out anyone but your 500-word count on a video post is wrong. I would say as I am a follower and supporter of someone who posts almost all videos almost every day & I have never seen over 100 words on their post, in fact, I don't think they hit 50 words lmao & their rep is up to 29. It definitely has a lot to do with Votes & if you are getting FLAGED. Other than that I would say you are 100% right on how to get Rep on here. #Cheers #PeaceLoveCannabis

·

We all have our opinions and I am talking more of here is a cannabis video I didn't create and only give a sentence of opinion and call it a discussion. I didn't really make that clear up there. The dangers of posting stoned you sometimes don't clarify what you intended. I am talking people who claim fair use but don't say anything to actually make it fair use to turn it into a discussion or as evidence of a stance. If it is a video series they are creating for the platform that brings more value. But a detailed discription will help their rep faster as sometimes video playback can fail.

·
·

Yeah, I was just saying that in my opinion & other than that I agree again 100% with you. I love your content it is always a good read/post. I wasn't trying to say anything that you posted was wrong it was just something I noticed. I hope that you have a great day! #Cheers #Resmoked

Oh I know that I was just furthering the conversation and clairifying more of what I meant. I follow a few people too who are leveling up who post just video and very little written word.

Plagarism videos is more what I was meaning...

Plagiarism will always stand opposed in anyway but what I hopes is that credited posts/pictures are not placed in the same basket.

Commenting has always brought up a follow - seen on other blockchain sites - so I still hope for more out of comments apart from just follows and votes, something like a friendship develop kick-starter.

·

Quality commenting encourages dialog with is how we get to know each other, learn, debate and grow. Free to use images that are credited are fine as long as they are sourced. I am referring to those for pass off stolen photos as their own. I am a photographer so stolen photos is a hot topic for photographers.

i think smoke is a wonderful place to grow, you can grow very fast by being original and post related cannabis things , smokers are so cool , you made me wanna make a post about my journey here , i'm going to write it , and thanks for inspiration @tecnosgirl <3

·

I will keep an eye out for it and glad I can help inspire another to share their journey.

These are great tips. I have been focusing more on commenting lately. It shows others that you are reading their content and engaging with people let's them know you appreciate their content. It not only helps the commenter but motivates the poster to continue creating content because the platform is paying attention.

·

Commenting is so vital but not just commenting in depth commenting like what has been done on this thread is an example of we all should be striving for.

Great advice! Thank you 🙏🏻

I have asked questions about it to some people. But you made it a lot more clear. My focus has been on creating relevant visual content.

And on some level, it became kind of frustrating, because I really put a lot of effort into it.

However, I understand it better now. You certainly gave some good tips & made me realize that word count also matters. And I'll definitely be adding that to my future posts trying to provide more context in that way.

Great post :)!

There are always some exceptions to the rules but talking about the art, the inspiration and the why behind it can be just as benefical as a longer post even if it is short. But commenting and interacting with others is the best way to grow. Being true to who you are but also being open to other peoples point of view. I am coming up to my 1000 post soon. But most of that is comment posting. But I do post daily here and put in time and effort for each piece I am writing. I write what I know and experience and I have found it resonates with people.
