Smoke plagiarism bot launched - Beta

last year

High Smokers...

I have another exciting news to share... starting this very moment, a plagiarism bot has been launched on Smoke. Many thanks to @stoner for commissioning this.

Screen Shot 2018-10-09 at 9.36.33 PM.png

The goal of this bot is not to flag post but to comment on content posted on Smoke that can be found else where on the internet. The comment will contain links to the other sources so the community can decide if they want to flag the post or not.

How does it work

  1. It scans every post made on smoke
  2. It checks of the content or part of it already exists on the internet
  3. If anything is found, a comment is posted with some of the links for the community to decide

Future updates

  1. We will be re-smoking all such content to make it easy for the community to follow

While re-smoke feature is not added, you can follow by checking the comments of @welcome from time to time -> https://smoke.io/@welcome/comments

Here are the first few posts that have been detected

  • If you have any feature request please comment with it. Also this is in beta, if you see anything unusually, kindly reach-out to me. Thanks

Vote for me as your witness

If you like my contributions, kindly consider voting for me as your witness

  1. Go to https://smoke.io/~witnesses
  2. Click on ^ by blackman, if it turns something like red you have voted

Good idea @blackman but... it keeps flaging my posts and linking to my other posts =) I think it's because of my social media and website links that I include in all of my posts. I only publish stuff I create.

·

@kiefpreston, it is really not flagging your post but upvoting them. Not every post the bots comments on is a plagiarised. That is why it does not flag and the community can really see that those are your own post, so no one will flag you.

·
·

Ya that's how I interpreted it too, but I had some people misinterpret it as if I was plagiarizing. Thanks for the clarification bro. Stay up!

·
·
·

I see... I think more education is needed from my end then. Thanks for bring this up bro.

·
·
·
·

A lot of people are getting frustrated with your bot man. check out the comments on a post I made today https://smoke.io/canada/@kiefpreston/canadian-hemp-blunt-wrap-blunt-to-celebrate-this-historic-day

·

While I think these types of projects are helpful to the community and helping fight spam and nonsense, sometimes these things can go to far. I know in my time over at Steemit I had a lot of trouble with Cheetah flagging my own content.

I do a lot of blogging and social media posting and I would post something I'd previously written on a blog, cheetah would flag me and I'd be forced to prove the content was mine. I remember at one point I did a post about Jamaica using some of my own photos I took on vacation. Cheetah started giving me hell, it wound up taking me about a full day to remember/find the logins to this old Google Blogger account I hadn't used like like 5 years and show on the backend it was my post and the date.

·
·

cheetah can be a pain for sure man

·
·

Thanks @rulesforrebels, unlike Cheetah, we understand that most content producers sometimes users their own content from other areas. This bog will not flag you but rather upvote you and comment. It is then upto the community to decide if it was a stolen content or not. Be assured you will never be flagged by this bot.

·
·
·

Hey @blackman yeah that sounds a lot better. While I think Cheetah had a good motive, the execution oftentimes caught good Steemians in the middle and had people jumping through hoops to prove the content was theirs. One particular time it took me a couple hours of tryign to login to an old travel blog I had to prove it was my content, then had to figure out how to use Steem chat to communicate that to them, big headache. I think yoru way of doing it is much better

Looking good. I guess it's gonna catch cross-posters, but is that ok still? Can we still cross-post with other blockchain platforms such as Steemit and Whaleshares?

·

@vandigital, it may catch cross-posters, but that is not a crime if it is your own content. Also the bot won't flag you, it will rather comment so the community and follow and decide.

·
·

How do you tell if your post has been flagged or downvoted?

·
·
·

If you tap / click on the vote counter under your post, it reveals a list of users who have voted on your post. If they have a plus sign next to their name, they've upvoted you; if they have a minus sign, they've flagged you.

·
·
·
·

Thanks!

·

I personally don't think there's any problem with cross posting. I do think it kinda stinks if someone uses a platform as a content dump and never actuallly contributes anything unique or interacts with anyone, but overall I think if it's your own content why not post it. Many of us who use traditional social media sites will post the same video on say Facebook and Youtube

·

Google is not clever enough, and by copying the content from other websites it will still be seen as duplicate content which is bad for SEO.

you should always reference even if its your own work.

Nice update

Absolutely Beautiful. :)
We had been discussing such things in discord and you've deployed this with nice timing.
Hopefully this will deter anyone from trying to abuse. At least maybe expose them immediately.

Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to take a second to address some things as well.. since this is trending and everyone will assuredly see it.

If you'd like me to remove it. Tell me.

The Nigeria issue.

I'm starting to worry that people from Nigeria might get judged harshly because of the actions of a few. I'd like to not see that happen. I go case by case, but I get skeptical when I see too many similarities in things.

This will help us to more easily determine what has been blatantly plagiarized and what has been legitimately used or modified/etc. Thank you for this, as it will make it easier to trust people in general.

Racist? Fuck racists.

It seems that people get the wrong idea here, that I am referring to Nigerians because I am "racist" when that is simply not the case. I just noticed there was a very large amount of similarities in quite a large percentage of the Nigerians joining. Very very few differences in a lot of the posts. That was it. And I explicitly stated that they might not even be Nigerian or that it was most likely one person or a small group of people behaving badly. I've also even been opened up to the possibility that Nigerians are just REALLY into Smoke and it's popular for them. That would be wonderful. I am unsure of things though. I have nothing against anyone, but I am very observant and I don't take kindly to someone trying to cheat an investment I've made by deception. This goes for any human being. Period.

What you should conclude.

Please read my words and let them translate properly, I am no racist. I want to expose ALL of the abusers, scammers, plagiarists, identity thieves and beyond. I want to keep this platform free of the bullshit that people flood onto these things to try and make quick earnings.

The one thing that eventually gets these people caught is their patterns of behavior. This is one of the simplest indicators of abuse/multi-accounting to self-vote and abuse. Excuse me if I'm learning a quite difficult curve here. I just want the purest, least corrupted blockchain around. This was/is/will be an investment I've made in not only my actual money, but in my time and efforts.
I hope you can see and understand my mission and not judge me as others seem to be.

I am stepping back from the issue for the time being and observing how things play out. If I have wronged someone in the process to try to kill spam and scam where it's filth grows.. Then I will be more than happy to compensate them. I will be heavily investing into Smoke and voting power regenerates. You will be compensated back, if you have truly been wronged. I guarantee you that. I am also a witness who produces blocks, so I will be growing in power daily. I do not intend to wrong anyone and if I do, I make things right. I am a man who has respect for others and can admit when he's wrong. Simple as that.

@Blackman
I've fully supported you and your mission from day one. Understand that my goal is to create the best environment for everyone. I appreciate your contribution with this. I hope it will be of use and help clarify things in a much faster manner for the masses. Keep up the great work!

Peace and Love!

·

Well said @howhigh and thanks for your support

Peace & Love

·

indeed we do need to enforce some sort of community rules to keep plagiarists at bay. it is unfortunate that many folks here on the african continent are after the quick buck and abuse the system but after this bot here and the bot I am working on to blacklist plagirizers and bullies. i think the problem will be mitigated to an extent.

·

support

So it's basically the same as the Cheetah bot from Steemit? SWEET! I was starting to notice some spam on the blockchain already!

Wow.. This platform is getting better everyday. Nice one @blackman

A welcomed development, good job @blackman.

This is great and welcome idea. @blackman welldone

I'm not sure how this will work on some of my posts, because some of my posts contain pictures that I've used in other posts elsewhere. All the pictures I use are my own, but some of them are already out there on the internet.

·

I suggest you just use a citation regardless of if it is your own material. that way folks are linked back to the original which is more traffic

AWESOME!!!
I just had someone on the SMOKE platform yesterday take part of one of my recent posts and copy/paste right into their own post... I questioned the person, but haven't heard any comment/reply back... sad thing is.. some people upvoted their post before I saw it and questioned the person

YES! Much needed! You've got my witness vote

I was thinking this was much needed because I have already seen many posts, whole copy-pasted articles and I also realized most of those come from non-smokers and don't have any smoke related material on thir own but still want to make somoke in time.

This is great! Thank you for your awesome work. And much needed, to keep the community vibrant. 🙏🏻

Happy to see this.
Love that the screenshot includes @skylinebuds ready to fuck.

I am excited to join this amazing platform

Good work, i wasn't sure at first but now I understand if bots can be useful and help keep the network a clean and fun place ... I'm all for it.

this is good for smoke network

This is great! It will hopefully stop a lot of abuse that might happen if this didn't exist

This will help out very much. There is too much abuse on blockchains and I don't want to see more of it

Yeah buddy😤

👏👏👏👏

wow its awsome it will help this community to make a good point in the world blogging plateform. Thanks

Good stuff.

Great going for not plagiarism genuine content network only for smokers

Why does it miss things like, https://smoke.io/world/@amal/go-to-san-francisco ?

·

The bot at this stage can't detect stolen images... The community will have to help here.

·
·

Text is stolen too :(

·
·
·

That is a small piece of text to pass... I would say keep doing what you are doing.. by keeping an eye out on what the bot is missing...

·
·
·
·

Be more bot than the bot? Intriguing. The upper hand that I have over the bot is that flagging plagiarism is the only way for me to reach sexual gratification, something the bot doesn't understand at all.

·
·
·
·
·

hahahaha... the bot doesn't even flag... it is just here to notify the community on what might be spam, sometimes it might not be, because may be the person did the original post some where else. So it just comments and great community leaders like you can read both content and take action.

Phew! Glad I stopped myself from copying that post
On a serious note! Great job on the bot. Plagiarism is a huge problem online and I am happy to see the community doing its bit to curb it here on Smoke.io
