Bringing the Web Economy Into Smoke

Reliable web hosting is often an expensive and even difficult to find service that many businesses and consumers spend billions of dollars on annually.

Uploading data to the IPFS network and then to the smoke blockchain, sounds complicated, but this is one of the dwindling ways to make sure it's very difficult to censor or remove, as long as the data is well seeded , and has nodes that are decentralized.

I've launched a beta service for the Steem/Smoke communities, so people who would like to backup their videos and music for use on the blockchain can do so. Our tiny service has grown over the past month, as of today we have servers totaling 2GBPS per second of data throughput. We are looking to add more in the future. For now our service accepts Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.

Our paid users and kind donors from the community enable us to give these services to blockchain users from around the world. You can find more about our IPFS hosting service here.

In addition to this, we also developed our tooling for use within smoke, as it is only a matter of time before DAPP developers are needing this valuable hosting as they may want to use IPFS for content on the Smoke blockchain.

That's great news, @graylan, I will look into it for sure! Smoked and resmoked and re-resmoked to the world!

·

I really appreciate your support!

very cool Gray, good move!!

·

Thank you meno.

nice work brother, things i will be happy seeing witnesses do to make this platform better each day, to the MOON!!

·

To the moon, thank you vlad.

Remoked !! Awesome work bro !

·

So many resmokes, I appreciate every single one! Thank you !

Great jobs bro voted and resmoked.

·

thank you smokebd, i really do appreciate that.

Yo my dude that is awesome!!

·

I appreciate your support .

WOW. my friend. This drew my attention.thanks

·

Thank you for stopping by. :)

this makes me think. if i store a movie on the blockchain and i have the blockchain downloaded to a harddrive can i then access the movie without having to be conected to the internet?

basically is it possible to create snapshots that are retrievable ofline... my technical knowledge is very limited so im sure im missing something but its an awesomeidea!!

PS thankd for your work to bring services to smoke :)

IPFS is great.
As far as files on ipfs, when you enter a file into IPFS it spits out a hash. For example when Smoke-you.mp4 was uploaded wrapped in a directory, the directory hash was, QmY846AeuidWmf1P9UYP8Z1biiNWJgHymqtv4uupKuBU6k. So people can go to https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmY846AeuidWmf1P9UYP8Z1biiNWJgHymqtv4uupKuBU6k and see the file. This hash will only ever point to these files.
And then you can reference the file, https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmY846AeuidWmf1P9UYP8Z1biiNWJgHymqtv4uupKuBU6k/Smoke-you.mp4
You can run IPFS locally and download/bookmark/pin them to your local machine and then they're able to be reached through localhost/127.0.0.1:8080
Having the blockchain would only help you reference what hash you're looking for, although it's easy to scan through things you've pinned locally.
For example, this quick script is what I use to see what I have pinned, https://ipfs.io/ipfs/Qmb44Q2jUuZk1tPVprFEb6Dkce5SghuhNZi5SFEHh58ywt/ipfsunpin-select.bash

That's a great explanation there. In the future, we envision millions of nodes, even possibly on wireless devices. I've tested running IPFS via Kotlin on android and it works surprisingly well.

·
·

wow im really going to look more into Ipfs, it seems like a tool i could use in my area.

·

The way IPFS works. The only thing stored onto the blockchain is what's called a hash. So yes, you can have a "snap" of your file, both at your home location , and say other locations around the world making it much harder to purge this file or "movie".

·
·

So for $10/month you'll host my stuff with essentially no storage limit on one node? Or is there a duration that the file gets pinned?
I could totally see people going for the extra node, since I normally have to spread something to ~3 nodes before it's 'readily available' it seems. (Although I'm perfectly happy with two ;)

You don't have to pay anything to host SD content. In the future, we will add limits on storage , it's a new bot setup and we are doing each thing by hand. (myself and techcoderx). Each SD File is pinned to at least two nodes. The HD content is pinned to one, unless you purchase the extra nodes.

Looking like a good idea @graylan

·

thank you :)

oh nice, Dtube ! you think it can be possible for art videos also ?

·

Yes, It will work with any videos. Although, IPFS is still new so the smaller the video the better. A good program to squish them down is https://Handbrake.fr

thank you so much :) that's great

Great news... Nice initiative bro...
