Got a new stainless steel grinder from United Machining in the mail!

Got my new United Machining grinder in the mail today, it's stainless steel so it can be easily washed in the dishwasher and I don't have to worry about aluminum flakes getting into my weed over time.

Pretty happy with the purchase, the screen at the bottom is a bit goofy and I need to glue one of the magnets in so it doesn't come out, but otherwise it's a great wee addition to my grinder collection. Anyone else got one of these?

If I had to buy another stainless steel grinder (I probably will, the grinder collection must grow) it'd be a Boomers grinder that thing weighs 515g that's crazy!

Anyone else making the switch away from aluminum to safer materials?

That is a solid looking grinder - looks like it has a mat finish too. I'm a lot gentler on my grinders than i used to be when i do use them, so i'm not too worried about flakes, but quality does have that nice feel to it and i would be tempted to upgrade someday.

I'd like to switch to 'safer materials' for sure :). I've defo smoked tiny bits of metal as I tend to scrape out my grinder when I've no more weed and this happens fairly regularly :( .....I do wonder how SS works with freezing in order to get the dust off - maybe with an SS grinder the dust would fall out the way it doesn't really for Al!?

That Boomers SS grinder is something else - in the vid the guy says the teeth are so sharp you could grind solids too! And that is on sale at $145 $95.

·

Yeah man I'm really tempted by the boomers grinder, you should be careful with the exposure, get a cheap replacement if it's really breaking down

·
·

Thanks Indica, I know it's dodgy smoking those little shards of metal. It was a lot worse with my old grinder (now toothless and obsolete) but even with the new one there is a little scraping that goes on, but nowhere near what it was (where I'd see shiny bits in with the mix!) - I try to heat the scraping implement first.

An SS Grinder is clearly the way to go and I will set my sights on one for the future 🔆

I bought a hemp grinder from santa Cruz the other day, I've really got a grinder collection habbit haha, but point is that has zero hazardous metals in it neither and is 1\10th the cost

·
·
·
·

Nice! You mean like the one in the image below? The write up (on Amazon) says "it's extremely durable with the teeth remaining sharp and guaranteed to produce a fluffy blend." Do you find it to be so? At £9 this is defo inexpensive and I'll most likely get myself one. Thanks for the great tip 🔆

reminds me to post up some of my pestle and mortar, then fine cheese/ginger graters that I've been experimenting with lately with 'grate' results :D

·

mortar and pestle's are pretty difficult to use, especially if your smoke isn't perfectly cured

·
·

yeh it's a bit savage, then again, so is the bush weed we are getting out here. Sometimes it's easy to smash it in the mortar and separate all the sticks and seeds just sorta fall away, same as with the grater ... like i said, must put a post up about it! That and I also want to attempt to make some ice hash - i will likely start with the mortar before going into the electric food blender.

That thing looks great! I been thinking about making the switch since you first told me about stainless steel grinders. I been keeping my eye on a couple waiting to see a sale.

If you don't mind me asking how much was this bad boy?

Awesome bro, you've gone heavy duty, now grind that shit up and get it dirty. I like the :-) face on it, Bong on bro. :-)

It looks like a great grinder, stainless is always best for health. I’m an oddball I guess, I’ve never liked to use a grinder. I break my bud up by hand. Just how I’ve always done it and what I prefer.

·

When you break it up by hand do you do so till it's a fine powder or are you more about making it chunky?

·
·

Small chunks. I get all stem out (even the really tiny stuff)and anything else that would poke a hole in my paper. I guess that’s usually my main goal, get out ALL stem and leaves. Maybe someday I’ll be back in Hawaii growing kine and you can come visit and I’ll roll you one. 😎✌️

·

I break my buds down then chuck it in the grinder, so I get what you mean, I just find it way faster to grind but I guess you do go through way more smoke that way haha

Wow! This Boomers grinder is awesome! I wanna have both, your next one and the current stainless thing! Is there some plastic or rubber in there for the sealing?

·

… and I was thinking about a new one since you asked about it. Mostly I'd like to have a bigger grinder so that my fingers don't cramp.

·
·

don't get too big of a grinder though, when I first started buying grinders I bought this huge one off ebay, like you could easily fit a full 1/4 into the grinding compartment, but unless you did it would just push the ganj around in circles instead of cutting it up.

Have you seen the hand crank ones? They could be good for avoiding hand cramping, plus the ones that chop not grind

·
·
·

interesting. Both information. I should think about those hand crank ones. Didn't even know they exist. Thanks a lot. What do you not know about cannarelated stuff?

·
·
·
·

Lol not much I don't know now haha

·

nope, no spacer like you usually get with aluminum grinders, i'll report back in a couple months how this ends up fairing, perhaps it'll get all gummed up.. but then I can just throw it in the dishwasher to clean it lol!

·
·

… or put it into the freezer like suggested by @tecnosgirl or you have cacao that puts you to bed like @mayb does or …

I love all the details. I see more and more. The tiny happy face, the peace sign, the elements … It's a beauty!

·
·
·

There's even a morse code message around the top grip

·
·
·
·

😲 What is the secret message???

·
·
·
·
·

I don't know, I've not yet deciphered it.

·

To be fair, now you mention it, without a spacer it's a little bit loud when you grind, but that's not a deal breaker. I could find a spacer online I guess, haha!

·
·

Depends! Sound design is important, right?! Is it a good sound? Like a roaring lion with a crush like rocks tumbling down a canyon? Or is it more like a metal saw cutting through the building while you crash your teeth with some sweets?

·
·
·

It's not a jarring scraping noise, it's more like the sound of ice skating

·
·
·
·

I just assume it's not with butt skids … sounds nice.

·
·
·
·
·

haha no 😜

It looks great, its flashy and quite sure it will last a very long time. A great buy without doubt! 😊💚

I love that engraving of the elements on that lid .. reminds me of my silver coins

It can be an all purpose grinder which is useful in she kitchen and so much for the cannabis. It's a good choice.

Interesting, cool, handy to clean and good price.
Enjoy it.
I already shared your post in my Twitter.
Thanks for sharing.

Grinders are getting so much better these days. Love my life-innovations.com grinder

·

Lift innovation, not life but yeah I've seen these it's quite expensive 8 might get a knock off version haha

Looks like a nice and decent quality grinder. 😎

I have never had the need for a collection of grinders myself, I have been using the same one for around 10 years now, and I could not be happier. Its one of the bigger ones from the space case guys, I do recommend to check them out 😊✌

·

Space case are cool, but I've always been put off by their price :/

I see grinder, I upsmoke

I like that subtle engraved smiley face on the grinder :)

·

Yeah pretty cool eh?

·
·

Yep, pretty damn cool. The whole design of a grinder is neat and thought out (like that piece sign and metal elements, also no aluminum and copper used, yey ^.^).

Never really thought about the health risks of the aluminum - I just always imagined that it didn’t really do anything if that did get into the bud, maybe change the taste a bit? Wasn’t aware of any health risks though 🧐

·

Best to eliminate exposure, it's food safe when new but loose metal flakes/dust from wear probably isn't food safe.

·

You wouldn't be able to taste aluminum dust/flakes

Cool! Looks like it is very handy to clean it in the dishwasher... I have a similar grinder complete with screen but it is in stainless steel that is shiny and not matt. Well, you've got a good choice! Enjoy it!

·

Thanks, I will :)

I like the idea of the durability of the stainless. The aluminum flakes are a bit scary, and over time prevalent. 95$ is s not steep for a grinder in my eyes, but that should last forever. Is there any thrush washer/ plastic slide material around the lid to allow smooth operation?

·

There isn't a washer, no

Pretty good grinder you have there with lots of parts. Stainless steel makes it a perfect grinder to not rost or as you said leave pieces of it in your smoke. How much did it cost?

·

Near enough $100,worth it though

·
·

wow. true but not exacly a cheap one is it. I hope it pays off in the long run.

Nice looking grinder. How much $ was it?

·

$95 before shipping

·
·

Oh man, it's expensive! That must be a solid qualitative product! I got my heavy duty grinder for 7 Euros. I'll show it in a post sometime.

·
·
·

Gotta support those small independent manufacturers 👍

·
·
·
·

ok then, that was a deal to think it that way..... but the grinder really looks so solid and I am sure you´ll enjoy using it. Thanks.

nice choice... larger would be better maybe

·

If they could make a 4th compartment that'd be cool, like to extend the amount you can grind

·
·

… keep it comin' ! :D

·

yeah it's pretty small, but it's really unique how it's not got any threading and is made of a safer material

looks like a heavy duty metal thing and good for batches to grind and I think that is a super energy saver thingy.

A good device, you need to get yourself this, otherwise I always use scissors

Very cool thing!

No doesn't have these yet but i m thinking about it now :)

Awesome grinder.
I like it..
