My Stealth PC Grow Box Review

Hello all, it's very good to be back! I have been away for a while because of work and as we know life just happens with no shit's to give. With that said I am very happy to finally and as promised show off my latest project, somthing I have been working on for some time now :-)

I give to you my Stealth PC Grow Box Prototype. Well it is the final prototype I am putting into production.

Those of you who follow me already know I specialise in building micro grow unit's. In my many years of covert micro growing I have found that a PC case is one of the best options to use for a micro grow unit if build correctly. Over the last 5 years I have build around 20 pc grow cases for myself and freinds, and with feedback and some tweaking I have manufactured " What I believe is " the best Stealth PC Grow Case on the market.

Here are the specs.....

Front and rear "fluid dynamic bearing" turbine fans
Front and rear fan speed controller
Activated charcoal filter ( Easy to replace charcoal )
Fully insulated and reflective inner
50w Full Spectrum COB LED ( 50 000 hr life-span )
Light cycle timer
Perminant Internal 120v -220V power supply ( Perfect for a airpump if growing hydro )
Grow Area - Legnth 35cm X Width 17cm X Hight 35cm

Hand Made!

With some basic specs covered I can cover the basic cocept of the pc grow unit and how everything functions.

Starting at the rear of the unit you can see the three air inlet slits that deliver air to the plant, cool the LED and inlet fresh air regulating the enviroment.

Next you can see the 50w COB LED. I build the light here useing the same method and LED chip I have shared in the past. To combat heat I cement the LED heatsink directly to the PC box chassis. This dissipates the heat into the oter chassis of the unit allowing the insulated reflective inner to keep the box cool.

Front side I have deisgned the exhaust using a turbine fan and fabricated carbon filter. To change the activated charcoal simply put the box on it's side, pop the lid off and suck the old activated charcoal out with a vacuum. Then top up with new activated charcoal and you good to go!

Pop one of the fron covers out and you have access for the fron and rear fan speed controller. This is useful because you can set the speed with the box closed, useful if adjusting fan speed to lower noise volumes. The fans are rated at 25db running at full 12v. The case sounds like a quite pc when running.

Also the reason I used turbine fans is because they work well at creating suction or pressure. I have managed to fine tune things to the point were the box will run at room temp no problem. The two combined fans move more than 100 times the volume of the box every min :-)

Well that's some basic info, I am working on a website and will update soon with more info. I recently got the word out there and have landed three orders so far in total. If you would like order a PC grow case please drop a comment below. I must note that obviously each unit is hand build by me so I think I will have a waiting list soon lol! Basically I will be hitting the net at around $300 per unit. This sounds pricey but is affordable esspecially given the fact I build them properly. If you can find anything better online please share!

Anyone interested in ordering with bitcoin $280 each. And yes yes only $250 per unit if you pay me with SMOKE! I am open to custom builds and designs if you require any specific features or custom PC box for example.

Thanks for stopping by I am looking forward to all your comment and feedback. I will update soon, I plan on doing a grow as I plan on keeping the prototype for myself cause I can.

Peace, @bitminter

I love it! The craftsmanship looks wonderful and I can tell you put a lot of thought behind this. Moving air at 100 x the volume in a minute is really moving! I will have to find your LED tutorial.

Hi @toker, here is the link >>> https://smoke.io/diy/@bitminter/diy-tutorial-how-to-build-a-50w-full-spectrum-led-grow-light-for-under-usd5-bucks

Yes I have put a ton of thought and love into this final design. I have a total of 70 hr's in the case you see in the pics above. Busy ordering bits in to start manufaturing and selling them online. Gonna build a online store and start selling them soon :-)

Thanks for the link! What do you think production time will be down to now that you have made one and have your design down?

If I have all the bits in hand I can build 2 -3 units a day. My plan in the fututre is to simply 3D print a 3 piece inside moulding. This will speed up the process.

At this point I have a solid working cocept and design, I am only limited by funding and equipment :-). Once I have sold around 10 units I should have the funds to start pre-fabricating parts and possibly going into production if there is enough demand.

It's a dream of mine to do this for a living, I think there is currently enough demand esspecially if I can focus on larger grow's and setup's. I am also working on manufacturing my own brand of grow light's, also just a matter of funding and a bit of tech needed and I will aunch that.

I love the 3d printing idea! I do imagine the demand will increase with how mainstream marijuana is becoming. I am rooting for your dream to come true. I wonder if Kickstarter would be an option to find funding...not sure what their marijuana policy is but it could always be advertised as a stealth herb garden lol.

Thanks, I have managed to already sell 3 units on ebay so the demand is there! I think I can get the funding I need just need to sell a few more units and I am golden. Then I can take things to the next level :-)

The first thing I would do, is removing the glass from the LED :)

·

No need the luminosity provided is way more than what is needed in such a small space. Also the lens protects the COB it is needed. :-)

Wow very nice. Can you tell some more details about the filter? Is it also DIY od do you have a link where i can buy it?
What is the best strain for micro growing? When i compare the grow high of strains then all are over 1 meter. And that will not fit with the PC-Case growbox.

Thanks for more information.

·

Hi @flyerchen, I have build or should we say fabricated the filter myself, custom for the box. If you need help or would like one build I can do so for ya no problem.

As for strain I would recomend either "low ryder" or "quick one". Both strains will perform very well in any small grow.

·

I was wondering also about what you can really grow inside...
Anyway, good job and nice concept!

Smoke up!

Excellent build, great use of a PC case for stealth. At first I thought the picture was of a closet .. much tighter :)

·

Thanks @jackdub, I tried to maxise space as much as possible. It is a very tight but I have managed to keep around 90% of the actual available space in the unit.

Wow... it looks awesome. Going to get some nice plants in there. I have a few cups sitting on my desk with 1 full Spectrum led light bulb. Just starting out.

·

Nice, keep us posted and if you need any help with building lights or anything like that let me know and I will put a tutorial together for ya! :-)

Wow! I would never had thought to use my old pc towers like that even when I was high lol. Nice Job for sure.

·

Thank you!

I've always liked the idea of grow boxes, too bad my state doesn't allow us patients to grow :(

·

Fuck them grow anyway! LOL not the best advice but if you grow small and keep it to yourself you should not have any hassels.

not enough space for growing, who wants small yield for hard work? Creative, 4 sure!

·

Small yeild? I can get 3 Oz out one of these PC grow cases if you know what ya doing and use the correct strain :-)

·
·

3 ounces? LoL Still not worth it when you can use something bigger and get way more product. 3 ounces would not last me at all.

·
·
·

I think you missing the point, this is specifically designed for people who need to grow small amounts.

Your micro grows are amazing! Only thing that I wonder, does humidity stay in check?

·

Hi @canna-curate thanks for the great question. Because of the small size and high volume of air moving through the case I find the temp hovers slightly above whatever the room temp would be and the humidity is normally also slightly above whatever your room would be when you have a plant inside. Because of the small space you can always expect high humidity spikes for a short while after watering.

I did a test run in a room in my house last night, turned the heating off and opened the window and closed the door of the room. Left the case running for about an hour. It's shit cold here this time of year so when I went back the room was 6 degree's, the inside of the box mid way was around 9 degree's. I turned down the fan speed on both fans to about 3/4 speed and the temp raised to around 15 degree's. Left it for another hour and checked in again and the temp was stable. Works Great!
