Continuing smoke-indica development

Check out the latest smoke-indica changes

As visible above, the contents of each post's header has changed:

  • Different buttons
  • Improved responsive design (mobile support)
  • Changed tags to use buttons instead of labels
  • Changed the author/reward/vote lines.

The header now has a smoke price link & icons added.

I've added a basic price monitoring page, it is programmed to update every 30 seconds, however if the server reboots it might get stuck.

The sponsors sidebar section has added icons.

The archive (tags) page has changed too:

  • Post tags removed
  • First image is now displayed
  • More items are loaded in a single page (maybe a bit too much).

There's a google translate widget now at the footer of the page too!

Things you can't see:

  • Improvements to background scripts scheduling
  • New script to fetch price data every 30s
  • Added cloudflare to optimize the website

So any further changes you think are neccessary?

Starts to look great...actually i would say - usefull...
Though I must admit, design and UX/UI wise, it is still a bit lacking.

I would consider CSS'ing it up abit, and perhaps fixing a few things in the responsivness of the whole website.

That would make the usefulness of the website shine through...

Will be happy to help you out with that if you want...i have a wide experience in web development.

Anyway got job on the effort, we gonna be needing tools like this to our growing network ;)

"Let's come together
Right now
Oh yeah
In sweet harmony"

·
·

In sweet harmony......😀🕺👯

·

Thanks, I just fixed up the mobile side bar, perhaps I could hide some of the sidebar stuff if the device is too small (like the highest reward section)

·
·

Looks better for sure...loads much faster as well...!

The sidebar doesn't seem to loaded, though perhaps you already removed some of the stuff by the time i read your comment :)

I still would do some Css fixes, like adding some pagination to the sidebar, perhaps increasing them on the general content, and fixing some general stuff on mobile view...but it comes up really nice!

·

I've made some changes to speed up the website, namely replacing the post galleries with just a single image and putting the website behind a CDN.

The majority of the time spent loading is on external images :/

·
·

Perhaps some kind of lazy loading js? So the images will load only when they come in view?
Its usually a good solution for pages with lots of images lkke galleries...

·
·
·

I can do that for the header, profile and footer images but to do that for the contents of the posts would be more difficult.

I could probably apply the image cache against the images in the post since that'd just be replacing the IMG URL string rather than applying lazy load in the different types of supported image tags.

That would make the posts themselves load faster.

·
·
·

I've applied lazy loading and image optimization, hows it doing now? New articles from now on will hopefully have webp converted images, old articles won't have this change until they are redownloaded.

Looks like it loads better but thats only on my regular browser and thats probable due to the page being cached...but once i move to incognito the homepage takes a while to load, specificaly the images...i am not 100% sure, as i am looking at it from my mobile, bit it seems that the browser is teying to load the full size image for each post, you should try to see of you can use a thumbnail version of the image on those archive pages to reduce the load..bit perhaps i am wrong and thats just this crappy internet connection.

Also perhaps in the future you can check the option to switch your pagination to a "load more" button with ajax functionality...but perhaps i am over-reaching :)
For now i would make that pagination a bit bigger, at least on mobile devices.

The post contents I try to apply lazy loading via jQuery, so it might attempt to load the original image for a few ms before lazy loading. Post lazy loading only works for images which use the html image tag.

The index and archive should be lazy loading at this point 🤔

Load more instead of pages 123 etc? I'm not sure how that would work with search engine indexing bots, but I could look into it, perhaps they'd just use the sitemap instead .

·

Yep the archives seem to be lazy load, good job!

The load more sbould interfere with proper indexing, they have the sitemap + the page is still there, it is simply loaded via ajax and you could also change the url on each load...that way the bots see it just as they see now.

Though my main suggestion is still styling...your mobile look is still a bit lacking in the whole header section...i would enlarge the menu button and add some proper pagination...

I believe your analytics can tell you what percentage of mobile users you have, might be a chunk...i was surprised recently when i discovered that one of my websites that i was sure mainly been browsed via desktop was actually had over 65% mobile users...had to rethink the whole design...

Perhaps its not the case with yours...anyhow a little touchup would be nice...

Shout if you need any assistance.

Yeah at the moment it's like 60% mobile, the bigger menu button is a good idea 👍

Yeah, now that is a funky looking archive you have....really like what you have done! Attractive, clear and not 'cluttered' like before.

Also, the 'Check out the latest smoke-indica changes' link is intended to go to your website right? Currently firing a blank (goes to top-level smoke.io).

PS. Carpediem sez he could help with the 'responsiveness' of the site. I did find that the archive page took a number of seconds to load. Looks like a good offer to see if he can work some CSS magic for you....he appears confident and in any case has been featured by your site (and this post lol) big time in his relatively short career on smoke.

👍

·

I've managed to shave a couple seconds off load times, but there's still at least 2.5s of blank white screen when loading which I want to get down as much as possible.

·

I'm looking into applying cloudflare to optimize all the external images, so hopefully that will speed up the website loading. Just waiting for a crypto tx to go through to my wirex card to pay the fees

·

fixed the link

Looks more better, I see it after your last update, as a somke.io's visit card and a complete guide that contains the hottest smoke.io's daily contents, smoke's price, sponsors, most active users and the perfect tools to spread the word in order to attract new users and expand our smoke community.

Love the price feature. I will likely use that a bunch so I don't have to do the math myself lol. I'm glad for the mobile support. Lastly I'm sure plenty of people will find the translate widget handy.

You´v e done a very good improvement on the page... How about adding the soc med PINTEREST on the side bar? There are a lot of users who feature cannabis on pinterest, just have a look at this link:
https://www.pinterest.at/search/pins/?q=cannabis&rs=typed&term_meta

·

Perhaps, but I don't use Pinterest. Do you mean for sharing content to more platforms from smoke-indica?

·
·

Yeah, you can create an account for smoke-indica( a free business account is also available) and link this account to the website smoke-indica.com. All posts under the website can be posted there, create a pin board and a pin.. this is also a means to create traffic to the website and eventually new users for smoke.io

here´s a video explaining how:

·
·
·

Is pintrest a cannabis friendly platform though?

·
·
·
·

I think so, I am seeing a lot of pins that pertains to types of strains, how to grow, paraphernalias, edibles, etc.... as well as strains "supposedly" medicinal. If you look at the first link I gave on my first comment, you can see that a lot of pins come from different platforms or bloggers. The only thing they prohibit is advertising on recreational cannabis.

I'll check it out when I'm back home , thanks 👍
