The Unofficial FAQ is now Live [alpha/beta/gamma/kappa?]

It’s been quite the week. Zero posts, yes ZERO.

I’ve been reading, commenting, and busting nuts of plagiarists though but I haven’t published any post on my account since my last post: WIP: Unofficial FAQ for SMOKE.

Last week when I pre-announced the FAQ and asked for your questions, I called it a WIP, a Work in Progress.

One week later, sooner than expected, I am happy to say the FAQ is live.

Not with 30-40 questions as initially targeted but with right now 45 articles already. The FAQ is not yet fully done. Let’s call it a BETA release right now.

I still have some open questions which need to be added and soon will (see list below).

Quick Recap

The goal of the FAQ is to have a reference for new users. The FAQ is written for n00bs by a n00b.

The FAQ does not aim to be the ultimate destination to discuss the nitty-gritty of the Smoke blockchain mechanics. The FAQ is geared at new members who have no pre-existing knowledge of the Smoke blockchain — or of the Steem/Whaleshares/Scorum blockchains.

F85B4AE7-5183-4096-B418-7D8D59F97205.jpeg

Normally not used to write for that audience, it was an interesting experience. Writing super simplified 101 articles is not easy, especially not for users with an advanced understanding of the mechanics. Of course, I welcome anyone’s feedback on writing style and [lacking] depth of the articles.

As mentioned in my pre-announcement, I went with a free platform to host the FAQ on. I did opt for Zoho Desk, because of its free 3 agents as well as the community feature (forums). When it comes to free, or cheap, Zoho’s products are often forgotten but anybody looking for a free option for productivity or anything [digital] office related should check out Zoho. The open source world for such products/apps is sorely lacking still and whoever needs a quick solution, a MVP can often find powerful products at lower cost than elsewhere from Zoho. Not necessarily products lacking features even, Zoho can compete with most solutions and covers most needs.

All #FAQ writing and no play makes [@unnamed] a dull boy.

To-do List

Organize Categories

I am not yet fully satisfied with the organization of the categories. I need to further think about that and possibly reshuffle categories, as well as reclassify articles.

Sample article: How do rewards work?

For Businesses

Add a new category in the FAQ For businesses.
I already have few main questions.

Community

The community forums, also known as “self-help” or “community help” have not yet been activated publicly.

I will get to that as soon as possible, hopefully within the next few days.

More Questions

There are still some questions which need to be added to the FAQ. And I’m pretty sure more will follow, even though I don’t want to extend the number of articles infinitely.

Currently these are the still open questions:

  1. How do I cash out? Has anybody written a reference worthy post about Smoke -> Rudex?
  2. How do I add image to post? Great news coming soon[ish]
  3. How do I power down?
  4. How do I cancel a power down?
  5. Can I vote as often as I want?
  6. What’s the safest way to manage my keys?
  7. What is resmoking? (Also: what’s that match icon for?)
  8. How do I style my post?
  9. Where can I trade SMOKE? [NEW]

With exception of Q6, which I think deserves an own reference post on Smoke too, these questions should also be published as FAQ articles within the next 24-48 hours.

New questions can still be submitted, but some questions already submitted may have been covered under a different title.

Omg, nice! Thanks for linking it!

Boy that looks good. It should help noobs like me. Hahaha

·

Hah! You should be the one writing the FAQ for not-n00bs. :D

Great job! It is being very complete. I love how you teach the examples with screenshots and links to related articles. It's very well thought, Yes sir!
I am sure that this FAQ will be very useful for many people :D

·

Thanks, much appreciated!

Awesome job :) appreciate the time and effort put into this. Thanks. This should be the pinned message on telegram, discord etc

·

😁

·
·
·
·
·

Applies even more for pinned messages in Discord. But i’m too lazy right now to update the meme. :D

·
·
·
·

Lol yeah no one checks pinned messages especially on discord. I'll make sure it's pinned on telegram. Many folks who come there are quite lost :p

Great work. This will help a lot of new people. I think we should add those little symbols we use to form the unique shapes our posts have in it. For instance under the question "How do I shape my posts to be more appealing."

·

Thanks, much appreciated. :)

The “biggest problem” with all that “styling” is that most platforms have removed those options because most content creators are not designers and find methods to make things look actually worse, all while thinking the posts look better.

Medium is probably the best example. They had many more design features in their earliest months. Steem, Smoke... reminds me way too often of MySpace 2005 era or even Tripod pages.

It’s the work for another dApp, Smoke.io is a MVP. It has integrated Github Markdown, which is rather minimal but that also means people can mess up less. And still they do anything not semantical use case. :D

If somebody has an excellent Github Markdown post, I will gladly reference that one rather than the Github guide itself. :)

·
·

You do have a point there. It would be good to make a post like that for reference reasons.

·
·
·

haha. Of course! I just said something similar until I eventually read what others say. Of course, @zuculuz is saying the same. Ok.

·
·
·
·

I didn’t say I wasn’t going to post it. My answer to you and to @zuculuz are totally different in spirit.

You mentioned MD, zuculuz hinted at advanced styling designs.

Yes, Germans trained me in pedantry. As if I still needed that back then.

·
·
·
·

Duality of reasons and perspectives. What is a 6 to me is a 9 to another.

·
·
·
·
·

anyways, both cool numbers. :P

Great Work!

Bookmarking this RIGHT NOW for future references...

excellent work, this is very helpful. re-smoking it!!!

·

Thanks, mate. Very appreciated.

This is very good post it would help me alot in building my smoke account. Thanks for the hand up👍

Thanks a lot, man! This is some hard work you did for all of us! If you ask me, I would add something to the posting section about the markdwown.

:D

·
·

alright! Good morning! Sorry.
Or have you changed that in the last hours maybe? I opened it yesterday and read it just now. Who cares? Sorry for wasting your time. :)

·
·
·

No worries, it was a valid suggestion.

And no, that was one of the first questions I wrote down. Is both in Simplenote and hackMD filed with the Q I’ve shared.

It’s just... so boring to write. Zoho doesn’t have MD, just a poor WYSIWYG 😂

·
·
·
·

haha. This moment when an IT tells a joke … :D
That was way above my head … WYSIWYG … I read: «What you see is what you get»

·
·
·
·
·

wait … I think that's what you're saying. lol

I should not do anything that needs my intelligence and attention, today …

Thanks for this. About to finish reading.

Really awesome... Will be very handy for a lot of persons who are new to the platform.

Glad to see it come together for you. Excellent work!

·

Cheers, mate. 🤘
