For today's weed news we go to the great state of California.

California's Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, just signed a bill into law that will ban smoking on all of California's beaches as well as their state parks. And yes, that includes everything from cigarettes, to cigars, to electronic cigarettes and vapes, as well as recreational and medical cannabis.

The bill, which will go into effect at the beginning of next year, also outlaws disposing of any smoking-related garbage on beaches and in state parks. Those who fail to abide by the new law will receive citations and a fine of $25.

So basically, as of January 1st, the only place where smoking will still be legal are going to be the parking lots adjacent to California's 280 state parks and 340 miles of coastline.

The state estimates that it will cost of about $2 million to produce and install the 5000 or so signs that will let smokers know that they are no longer allowed to light-up on the beach and in California's parks.

Similar bills were introduced in the past, but always ended up getting vetoed by former Republican Governor Jerry Brown.

Although I understand that this legislation will probably make beaches cleaner and probably reduce some of the risk of fires accidentally started by irresponsible smokers, I feel like taking away people's right to enjoy a cone as they watch the sun disappear over the horizon with their feet in the sand is saddening.

I get banning tobacco and even Cannabis smoke if they are focused on clean air and less trash, but to be honest, I don't understand why electronic cigarettes and vaporizers are being included in this new law. I feel like as long as people don't throw them away, leaving behind garbage in the form of old e-cigarettes or vapes, there is no logical reason for banning them except for the recent anti-vaping hysteria that has taken the nation by storm.

But anyway, it is what it is you guys. Thankfully the fine is only 25 bucks so I'm sure there will be lots of people who just ignore the smoking ban and risk just paying the fine.

Plus... You guys still got 10 weeks of blazing on the beach before the law kicks in so enjoy it while you can California!

And for now, that's what's up in the great Golden State!
