For today's weed news to go to the great United Kingdom.
People in the United Kingdom seem to be warming up to the idea of decriminalizing cannabis.
A new poll conducted by King's College London and Ipsos MORI, found that only about 29% of people in the United Kingdom feel that using drugs like cannabis is morally wrong. That is a huge drop from the 60% that thought getting faded was immoral back in 1989.
This news comes as an increasing number of lawmakers in the United Kingdom are beginning to seriously consider decriminalizing the Herb.
I feel like it's important to note that the U.K. has already technically legalized medical cannabis, but the program has been super slow to get off the ground with most folks saying that it very difficult to find a doctor that will even talk to them about cannabis-based alternatives to the meds they might be currently on, yet alone prescribe them.
But not only is public opinion about cannabis becoming more favorable, the U.K. Parliament's Health and Social Care Committee recently come out in support of decriminalizing all drugs earlier this week. The committee said that it believes that the United Kingdom is clearly failing with its just-say-no stance, and has suggested that the country needs to try a "radical new approach."
To me it looks like the United Kingdom has reached a crossroads of sorts, where the lawmakers that represent the status quo and those that are focused on the future will have to figure it out and come to some kind of a compromise.
I truly believe that the immense benefits of legalizing cannabis are undeniable at this point and anyone who tries to resist progress as far as cannabis laws are concerned is making a mistake. Hopefully we will see the United Kingdom loosen its restrictions on cannabis, medical as well as non-medical, and stop putting people in jail for it.
Legal Cannabis helps people live healthier lives and also brings with it countless economic benefits. So if what's currently happening is not producing the desired results, why not try something radically new?
Anyway, I hope after they get this whole Brexit thing figured out, U.K. lawmakers can focus their attention on changing the way they treat Cannabis. We now know that the public wouldn't mind.
And for now, that's what's up with Cannabis in the UK.
