For today's weed news we go to the great state of Washington.
According to a new study recently published in the Journal of Pain, it appears that medical Cannabis is effective in helping people deal with headaches, including migraines!
That's right, researchers at Washington State University who conducted the study, found that participants reported a reduction in headache pain severity of over 47% as well as a 49.6% reduction in migraine severity! Those are some very impressive numbers especially if you're suffering from a throbbing headache.
"We were motivated to do this study because a substantial number of people say they use cannabis for headache and migraine, but surprisingly few studies had addressed the topic," wrote Washington State University assistant professor of psychology and lead author of the above-mentioned study, Carrie Cuttler.
"My hope is that this research will motivate researchers to take on the difficult work of conducting placebo-controlled trials. In the meantime, this at least gives medical cannabis patients and their doctors are little more information about what they might expect from using cannabis to manage these conditions, Cuttler continued.
This Washington State University study seems to be one of the first if not the first to officially analyze and incorporate big data from Cannabis-using patients suffering from headaches and migraines in real time.
One thing that I personally found somewhat peculiar is that the Washington State University researchers found no difference in effectiveness between THC or CBD. Having many years of experience with both of those cannabinoids, I find that kind of strange because of the vastly different way each of them works on me when I use them. But I guess the results could suggest that both cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol have headache-relieving properties. And if that's the case, that's what the fuck is up!
Either way, I am excited to hear that scientists have taken it upon themselves to explain how Cannabis can help those suffering from headaches. I feel like the number of people that have headaches on a recurring basis is definitely in the tens if not hundreds of millions worldwide, so finding a natural, plant-based remedy for their pain, like Cannabis, is definitely a breakthrough and is extremely important.
I can't wait to read about more studies on this topic, especially Placebo-control ones.
But anyway, for now that's what's up with headaches and Cannabis in Washington State.
