For today's weed news we go to the great state of Rhode Island.

Earlier this week, the people in charge of regulating Rhode Island's medical Cannabis program announced that they will soon be awarding an additional six dispensary licenses.

This announcement comes just months after the state approved next year's budget in which they specifically set aside money for overseeing the birth of Rhode Island's 6 new Cannabis retail locations.

Along with the announcement, legislators also said that they want to update some of the rules governing dispensary operations in Rhode Island. The main thing they want to change, is when dispensaries may begin growing their own crops. The new rules being suggested would prevent dispensaries from planting any seeds until they have officially opened for business and completed something called a market survey. I am not quite certain what or who that would actually benefit.

But what I found quite interesting, is that Rhode Island's 6 new medical Cannabis dispensary license recipients will actually be chosen at random with the help of a lottery system. So basically they will just be drawn at random. (When I first read about that I found it kind of weird but after thinking about it for a minute I feel like it's actually one of the fairest ways to choose).

As far as the updates to the rules go, the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation is going to continue taking comments and looking at feedback from local residents about the proposed changes until December 21st. But as far as making any concrete decisions, lawmakers have signaled they plan to put it off until the first quarter of 2020.

Once the six additional dispensaries start selling medical Trees, Rhode Island's total number of dispensaries will balloon to a whopping 9! As it stands right now there are three operating dispensaries in the state with one in Providence, one in Portsmouth and the last one in Warwick.

All in all I think Rhode Island is making some good progress and I definitely feel like the addition of six new medical Weed shops is going to make it a lot easier for Rhode Island patients to get their hands on the meds they need. And isn't that what it's all about?

Anyway, for now, that's what's up with new dispensaries coming to the great state of Rhode Island.

I agree dude that lottery system has got to be one of the best ways for them to choose who receives a license.... cool that the dispensaries there will be allowed to grow their own crops 🤔 seems they took a different route here in Canada separating the producing from distribution licensing but I’m not sure it’s been beneficial at all...
