For today's weed news we go to the great state of Indiana.

It looks like the cannabis reform wave has made it all the way to Indiana. According to recent polls, around 78% of Indiana residents are in favor of cannabis law reform in their state!

But unfortunately, because of the way that Indiana's state law is written, that doesn't really matter.

You see, the state of Indiana does not allow for ballot initiatives at all. Meaning that people in the state do not get to vote on changes just state laws, any laws. Instead, all changes must be brought on by lawmakers and the state's General Assembly. That includes the state House as well as the state Senate, both of which happened to be republican-controlled.

And to make matters worse, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb (R) has been very vocal in his opposition to any kind of cannabis law reform.

"I'm just not willing to look at that, especially since it is illegal right now according to the federal government," said Holcomb in an interview with the Northwest Indiana Times last month.

Holcomb became governor after former Governor Mike Pence became Donald Trump's vice president two years ago.

The state of Indiana has historically been pretty anti-cannabis. The fact that the people there have seen the light and changed their mind about the herb is a great development. It's definitely more concrete evidence that the Cannabis movement it's spreading to unprecedented places.

Unfortunately, it does not look like there are going to be any changes as far as the Cannabis scene in Indiana goes until the federal government reschedules weed or Holcomb is voted out of office.

As it stands right now, he is set to remain governor until election day of the year 2020, and possibly longer if he gets reelected.

So unless Trump pulls the Cannabis legalization card to try to get himself reelected sooner, Hoosiers are just going to have to go to Missouri to get their weed, at least for the foreseeable future.

Although it sucks, that's what's up in Indiana.

Medical marijuana and recreational weed are back in the news in the U.S. and Indiana.
There have been past legislative efforts to allow medical marijuana in Indiana, but all of those initiatives have failed.
Good news.
