For today's weed news we go to the great state of Connecticut.
It appears that a pot-related billboard on the side of a Connecticut highway has been erected and it is causing a whole lot of uproar in the state.
The state of Connecticut, where recreational weed is not yet a thing, shares a border with Massachusetts, where recreational Cannabis became legal over 2 years ago.
The billboard in question, an advertisement for the company WeedMaps, a website and app that lets people search for and locate cannabis dispensaries anywhere in the US simply says "WEED IS LEGAL IN 60 MILES" in white, capital letters. The word "Weedmaps" also appears above it as well as a WeedMaps logo on the side.
The billboard is referring to a brand-new weed store located in Northampton Massachusetts roughly 60 miles from that spot.
But because weed is federally illegal and still illegal in the state of Connecticut as well, lots of people seem to have a problem with this ad.
Some are saying they think the billboard will persuade Connecticut residents to cross state lines and do illegal drugs and even possibly bring some back.
But there are also those who believe that the ad is a good thing. One Connecticut resident even said "I believe this sign promotes a gateway to a healthier lifestyle, freedom of speech - it says that there's access legally, in the state neighboring."
If you want to get technical about it, the ad actually only advertises the website and app WeedMaps, not cannabis or any other "illegal" products, and therefore it is perfectly legal.
But what I don't understand, is why people are tripping in the first place since Connecticut has medical cannabis laws on the books, and Weedmaps also helps medical patients locate places that they can buy their meds, including places in the state of Connecticut that operate in the open.
There have even been calls to take legal action to try to get this billboard removed.
I personally don't think that they can make the company take down that advertisement without violating their freedom of speech.
But one thing's for sure, no matter what happens with that particular ad, even if it gets torn down tomorrow, it has already brought WeedMaps an insane amount of attention, way more than anybody could have expected from a single billboard, just through the controversy and news coverage alone.
If you're unfamiliar with the site, I really recommend you check out weedmaps.com, whether you looking for nearest place where you can purchase some cannabis legally, or just want to look at what's available out here, or just see pretty pictures of weed and crazy weed products, you can find all that shit over there.
Here is that billboard if you want to take a look at it for yourself...
And that's what's up in Connecticut.
