PSSA: Community check your Witness votes (15 disabled)

in #news

We all know a couple of days ago we all had to update our Memory, this platform is getting bigger and bigger which is super exciting. If you haven't yet go and also update your Shared Memory from 1gb to at least 8gb you do this in the config file.

Witness please check on your node.

Quote from: @betgames over at discord.

If you are unable to check the node frequently, please make use of pWP by becoming a beta tester . Set up just costs about $30 to $70 max , one time investment on a Raspberry Pi. As long as you have a reliable WiFi the Pi will do the job of switching server and notifying you about missed blocks via email. And the switch over to back up node makes sure that you don’t lose more than 1 block. (Check with @bbq-iguana if you want to become a beta tester)

Lets all get a small warning set up.

I would assume it would fair to say that of there is a witness on this list that has been Disabled for over a week they are considered a dead witness, and if you are one of those please at least have the
courtesy to update your witness account so it will not be shown on the list and used in the rotation.

This list does not repersent a badwitness but there are some on here that have been disabled for a bit longer than what the community would like.

What are Block Producers, what do they do and why do we need them?

On the Smoke blockchain, witnesses serve a role of validating signatures and timestamping transactions by including them in blocks. A block is any group of transactions (posts, votes, transfers, etc) which update the state of the database. Each time a witness produces a block, they are paid for their service. If a witness fails to produce a block, then they are not paid, and may even be voted out.

Witnesses are generally expected to manage a reliable block producing node, implement a failover system, maintain a public seed node, tune blockchain operating parameters, but since Smoke is a infant blockchain most of the above mentioned are not rarely implemented yet.

As a Smoke user who wants to see this platform continue to grow and flourish, we all have 30 votes to cast for any Smoke witness of our choice and I will say this is the most important 30 votes you will ever cast on this platform.

Lets call them Blockchain Guardians or a slight used term block producers.

What a shame. Seems to be a lot of witnesses dropping out. Is it too pricey to run a node if you are outside the top 20?
I run witnesses on other block chains, perhaps I need to put my knowledge to good use on this awesome platform too.

No, you can run a smoke witness on a $10/month Digital Ocean droplet.

I noticed that 8 witnesses were disabled 5 days ago. I'm guessing that it had to do with the memory requirement on the server.

Thanks for the 411. Just got the account. I'll have to learn those that would best use my vote.

Timely update let me go and check those I voted for once inactive I will remove my vote

Thank you for this update! I'll be going through my votes today and seeing what needs to change
