The Prince Of Pot

Before the bud, "The Prince of Pot" was known to officials as the owner of independent bookstore "City Lights Bookshop" in the early days, who regularly stood up against anything he disagreed with personally, regardless of the effort and personal risk involved.

With time, his influence was growing with the creation of "Cannabis Culture Magazine" and the launch of the marijuana-related channel "Pot-TV" — which had guests as high profile as then-leader of the NDP, the late Jack Layton.

Despite the remarkably less contentious act of selling books than his #Cannabis Culture merchandise, "The Prince of Pot" still managed to defy law enforcement and become known
for it.

The Prince Of Pot

He is the Canadian businessman, the cannabis rights activist, the entrepreneur and the politician "Marc Scott Emery", who owned and operated Cannabis Culture Magazine, Pot-TV, the "British Columbia Marijuana Party", and "Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Headquarters" and has been jailed several times for his cannabis activism.

Born in London, Ont., in 1958, and lived there until his mid-30s before moving to B.C. as an established #Pot advocate, he has been a notable advocate of international cannabis policy reform, and has been active in multiple Canadian political parties at the provincial and federal levels.

He is the estranged spouse of fellow activist "Jodie Emery" with whom he operated Cannabis Culture magazine and Pot TV, he was also the world's most famous marijuana seed retailer and the biggest financial supporter of the #Marijuana movement world-wide.

Until the business was raided by police, the couple were co-owners of Cannabis Culture, a business that franchised pot dispensaries. Crown prosecutors later deemed the business to be illegal due to obtaining cannabis from illegal sources.

He was taking on provincial, federal, and later, international marijuana laws, many times his store "Hemp BC" was raided by authority and was given fines of a few thousand dollars each time, and finally his licence for "Hemp BC" was canceled in 1998 by the city of Vancouver.

Long before marijuana legalization was a glint in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's eye, Emery lobbied to change Canada's laws, such as one prohibiting the sale or promotion of pipes, bongs and pot-related items.

He took his crusade to politics, becoming a founding member of the Marijuana Party of Canada in 2000, and unsuccessfully running for various seats in the House of Commons and British Columbia.

In 2005, he ran a business selling marijuana seeds and paraphernalia. American authorities with Canadian law enforcement saw him as "drug dealer," and charged him with drug and money laundering offences. He pleaded guilty to one charge, served almost five years in the U.S. and emerged as defiant as ever.

In 2016, he brought his advocacy to Montreal where six Cannabis Culture locations opened despite laws against the sale of recreational marijuana, he was arrested by Montreal police and later released after posting a $5,000 bond.

It was just a matter of time for Cannabis legalization in Canada.... he could have been a horror thing for the pharma industry had the canadian authorities initiated the legalization earlier.

Well, he fought a good fight and came out the victor!

·

Not quite a victory, Here it is just a new form of prohibition on cannabis.

Great way to get the flags. This is not facebook you will not earn the respect of the community

First of all, I'd like to commend you on your writing. On behalf of Canada. I apologize for Marc Emery. The bigger proponents that did alot more behind the scenes are the unsung heroes. Guys like Dana Larson, Jason Wilcox and most of all Terrance Parker (literally the reason cannabis prohibition was first invalidated in federal court back in 2000).

I grew up with/around Marc.

He's nearly two decades older than myself and my group of friends. I have tons of memories with this guy. He pushed boundaries, and had a silver tongue. In my young & dumb naivety - I held so much respect for the Emery's (I still have respect for Jodie and would do alot for her), Jodie is and always was the real driving force behind CCHQ/BCMP/Pot TV/Amsterdam Cafe/Urban Shaman & the Vancouver Seedbank. She absolutely deserves a legacy, as opposed to the one Marc is coasting on.

They had created these businesses long before prohibition had ended, which is why myself, and many others, felt he should be named "The Prince of Pot".

After getting fairly close with the pair of them, helping out at the shops - doing interviews with them and others for Pot TV and just hanging around - some things started to become horrifically clear.

Here are some widely unknown facts about Marc Emery.

Jodie and Marc have and open relationship. (Which would be fine by itself but) This is not by choice of Jodie. It is Marc's excuse.

He is a pedophile. I was going to leave this part out because based on personal experiences and anecdotal stories from my friends (we were 14 - 16 years old when we started hanging around this guy). Though now that their are actual cases against him for it, I will bring it up. The worst occurrence was when he cornered my 15 year old (at the time) friend alone in an alley. He pushes her up against a wall and shoves a tab of acid in her mouth. She had never tried any psychedelic or anything other than Cannabis. She still hasn't told me exactly what happened that night. All she could choke out was that she got "assailed" and I couldn't bring myself to press her on it. Looking back, the fact that he was hanging out with kids less than half his age should have been a big red flag. I had witnessed him touch underage girls inappropriately (many times) to "lotion them up" after he had them flying on whatever drug he had around. Usually DMT.

He is extremely sexist. Never would an employee or hang around get an important or high paying task unless they were male. Also Jodie ran his business better than he ever did when he got locked up.

He uses/used his celebrity status to cover and continue his insidious behaviour.

His "battle" for legalization consisted of smoking in public places, Yelling loudly and portraying a Cannabis Community that just likes to "get fucked up". His middle finger to the system regarding cannabis always seemed so cool when I was young. Looking back I can see he was acting exactly as we did, though we were only 14 - 16.

To be honest, I read somewhere that he was sexually inappropriate with some teenage girls in the early 2000s, and was accused of sexual harassment! But I did not believe what I read at that time!

Sad to know the unknown facts about Emery, as based on what I read here, he is bad for the weed movement!

Happy as you highlight the truth and shared a lot of info about him (that I did not know) based on your personal experiences. / Thank you.
