And was it a coincidence that the show had grass skirts and all those "Little #Bud" references? In short, Gilligan’s was the druggiest isle this side of Jamaica.
For those of you not familiar with the sitcom that began in September 1964, it was the story of seven castaways stranded on an uncharted desert island.
Few could have predicted the cultural impact of the lighthearted sitcom, that was aired in 30 languages around the world, the "Sherwood Schwartz's" creation was like a living cartoon, which was part of its charm and appeal.
Mary Ann (Born October 18, 1938)
Mary Ann / Dawn Elberta Wells
Wells appeared on several television series, including 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye, before setting sail for Gilligan's Island in 1964. For three years and in endless reruns ever since, she has been stranded on that desert isle as Mary Ann Summers, the sweet foil to Tina Louise's Marilyn-like Ginger.
Following Gilligan's Island, she had occasional film and television roles, served as an "assistant" on High Rollers with Alex Trebek for seven years, and was one of the numerous has-beens to find a port on The Love Boat. She can also drop back into the character of Mary Ann at the drop of a hat, and has made a career out of doing so on reunion shows.
Wells has opened a clothing business for elderlies, "Wishing Wells", offering "special clothes for special people". She got the idea after helping care for her elderly grandmother, using her knowledge of quick costume changes to design clothing that went on and off easily.
She sells the clothing on her website, along with "Mary Ann's Gilligan's Island Cookbook", a book with recipes from the show's cast and bits of Gilligan trivia. On her ranch, she runs the Dawn Wells' Film Actors Boot Camp, a week-long seminar for making the transition into professional acting.
In 1998, Wells briefly stopped answering calls when Bob Denver, the actor who played Gilligan, was arrested after receiving a #Marijuana delivery. Police Detective Keith Compton told E! Online they'd found old check stubs for $6000 worth of #Pot purchases made from Dawn Wells while numerous reports at the time suggested that Wells had sent him the pot by by FedEx delivery, and she was long-time Supplier, but she was not charged.
Mary Ann's Arrest
She later denied the #Cannabis was hers and was not convicted on marijuana posession. She did plead guilty to one count of reckless driving and was sentenced to five days in jail, fined $410.50 and placed on six months probation.
Wells blamed hitchhikers for the #Weed in her car. She pleaded guilty to one reckless driving count. Three other charges – including possession of a controlled substance were dropped. After Dawn Wells was busted for pot, America learned the girl next door on the island was the one maintaining to get high.
I would love to #Smoke pot with the beautiful lady Mary Ann. Its a shame, her Pot Arrest Was Part Of Massive Law Enforcement Cover Up. They just need to leave her alone. The point where she said something like taking a nice person down. That is so true.
