Extract some Rosin (from some quality material) at a high temp, around 200 - 220 F . Dried, cured buds work fine, but ice-hash is the best starting material. Use quick times, 15 seconds at most.
Scrape up your gooey goodness, and slop it into a mason jar. Place a lid on the jar. I like to whip it up to help the process.
Quick Method - Caution!
Place the jar in an oven, toaster oven or convection oven. Make sure your heat is at 200 F before placing the jar. Check on it every 5 minutes. This should never take longer than 45 minutes for a 200 ml jar. Once the the rosin is all liquid in suspension take it out and leave it in a dark place at room temperature. After about 24 - 48 hours the THCA crystals will crash out of suspension, forming at the bottom of the jar.
CAUTION: Leaving it in even 5 minutes too long can ruin the batch, so that it will never recrystallize.
The jar on the right is ready.
Place the jar in a dark place, above room temperature. A heat mat or boiler room will work. As time passes (4 - 14 days) in this soupy state, pressure starts to build. THCA crystals begin to form and fall out of suspension to the bottom of the jar. The volatile terpenes rise to form a viscous layer on top of the mix in the jar.
When you’re happy with the crystal formation, you can pour off the terps to separate the crystals.
Terpenes can be re-added to the crystals for flavor or made into their own dabbable product.
To further refine the THCA you can place it in 25 micron bags and press it at low temperatures, around 140 - 175 F. The terpenes will flow out of the rosin bag onto parchment to add to the rest. Inside the rosin bag, after it re-solidifies, will be THCA powder. You can repeat this step as many times as you need/want to achieve the pure white THCA powder.
