I remembered something very important today while in Canna-Curate Chat...I didn't change the bulb from Metal Halide to High Pressure Sodium!
The bulb on the right is the Metal Halide(used for vegetation) and the bulb on the left is the High Pressure Sodium(used for flowering). YES, I have socks over my hands. There is a lot of debate in the HID community about oil affecting the bulbs and I just play it safe and cover my hands to prevent oil touching the bulbs because these bulbs are not cheap and I want them to last as long as possible.
The most interesting part of the HPS lights vs the MH is the light output! The HPS lights are so much brighter! The light actually needs to be moved up because the lux count is so high(around 80,000 lux will cause plant beaching).
The lux meter is reading 73900(need to multiply the meter number by 100) and some plants can be negatively affected at the 75000 lux range. These two strains(Steem OG and Black Sugar) are new to me so be safe I want to stay in the 50k to 60k range for the HPS Light. The goal for the MH was around 28 to 30k.
The difference in color
Here are two screen shots of the HPS color vs the MH.
For Flowering: High Pressure Sodium(HPS)
For Vegetation: Metal Halide(MH)
Waiting the extra 6 hours to work on the grow was a tough task(today is the first day of flower). I am glad I remembered to change the bulb. Now I need to do a nutrient change out and make sure the training of the limbs is going accordingly.
