I ordered a taller tent

One of my girls is so tall that she keeps touching the lights

I move up the the lights and she grows even taller and touches them again. It has been like this week after week and I can't move them up anymore. So last night I decided it is time for a new tent. The tent I want I can't afford but even right now if I could afford it, I don't have the space to set it up, as currently my spare bedroom is being used as a storage shed as we wait to be able to afford to build our garage. (which should be this year) By then I will have a harvest and will be able to really upgrade to the equipment I want.

What I ordered

iPower 48"x48"x80" Hydroponic Water-Resistant Grow Tent with Removable Floor Tray for Indoor Seedling Plant Growing 4'x4' I paid $56.65 USD with free shipping and found the tent on Amazon. The next cheapest tent was $89.95 for the same size. And to be honest I think this one is better as it has a viewing window then the $89.95 model. I am not an affiliate with Amazon I don't care what you buy but if you are on a budget and are looking for a taller tent this might be your option and people always ask when someone buys something where did you get it so here is the link I bought this tent from. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHB6B99/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My previous tent I bought

TopoLite 48"x24"x60" 600D Grow Tent Room Reflective Mylar Indoor Garden Growing Room Hydroponic System Dark Room Sadly it is too short hopefully the 80" tall one will work cause I can't afford at this time I taller one than the one pictured above. This one is currently priced at $74.18 but I paid $67.99 at the time I bought it. Kind of feeling ripped off now that I found this bigger one cheaper. Oh well, if you are looking for one this size, and like the one pictured below you can find it here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJYHB5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But I highly suggest going through all the listings closely as you might be able to find it cheaper than this. To me it seems like most of the tents are basically the same, but I am likely wrong about this as my only experience is looking at them online and then buying one before last nights purchase.

small tent.PNG

Today I am off to buy some additional things for the tent, basically reproducing the small tent on a slightly bigger scale

I only have the money for this because I been selling enough tinctured candies to get all my smoking supplies free over the last month. It has saved me enough money that I can buy a bigger tent now but I still don't have the money saved up as I would after 2 months of not having to purchase my meds. I guess I could sell off some cryptos to make it happen properly but then I would take a hit because of the down turn market and would rather wait for the recession to be over with before I do that, so that is what I am doing. I know this harvest will not have the biggest yields but that is okay, because my next grow will have bigger yields because I will have the money to invest in a better lighting system. And though this lights might not be the best they work. They produce good bud it might not be the largest yields but I am not trying to be a cannabis dealer I just want enough to not have to buy my supplies on the black market.

It is expensive and I feel guilty for taking away my family resources on my medicine

It is still cheaper than going to the doctor every few weeks and the co-pays plus prescription cost hitting the black market but I still feel guilty any time I incur another medical bill, I fell guilty every time I drop $200 at the dealers because I know that is $200 less for other things we need to get done. Like our garage, it is a lot slower to get that built you spend $200 a week on your medicine. So that is why I am growing so I save $800 a month, that we will be able to do other things with, beside building the garage, going on real vacations and not these short weekend things we have been doing pretty much forever now. My husband and I haven't been on a real vacation since our honeymoon 17 years ago. Part of the reason why is because of the expense of my medication.

So please don't give me shit over my equipment

It maybe cheap, but it is working to do what I need it to do, without raising my electric bill so high that the utilities notice. Seriously the highest these LED Full Spectrum Light has raised my bill is $25 when then I had them on the 18/6 cycle, I have them on the 12/12 now. No one flinches twice at seeing a $200 electric bill but they would at a $400 one. Some of the lights some people are telling me to get uses so much energy it would make me a target for law enforcement, because the jump in my electric bill would be so high that they would want to know why.

I plan to build my own array of lighting

But this won't happen till I have someplace to work at, As I am not keen of using my house as a workshop. So till my garage is built later this year, my cheap lighting system is what is going to have to work. I want to be able to use LED Bulbs instead of these panels so when a light goes out I don't have to replace the whole panel I can just replace the bulb. I can also put different types of bulbs in it from Full Spectrum to traditional LED to Grow Heat Bulbs if I want because it was be interchangeable for different growing needs, cause I also plan to use the tents to grow some indoor veggies.

Till next time Stoners

It is 4/20 somewhere so puff puff pass

Great that you make your space bigger, but, regarding heights, that´s one of the problems of mixing strains on the same space, each one has is height, to solve that best would be to get good info on the strain and apply veg period depending on that. >Once you know that strains get taller give it less veg, if you still going to mix strains do it thinking in that, smaller strains get in before and they get enough veg to be at the same height of tall ones without that much veg

·

That is one of the things I am learning, but I am thrilled to have another tent it means I can move them all into the bigger one and use the smaller one for vegging and for some indoor veggies.

·
·

Exactly having the two spaces will allow you to mix strains and pass them from one tent to another when needed, the new tent looks awesome by the way ;-)

good move, you'll be happy with more space for your babies to stretch out

Smaller tent for clones now? :D

·

Yep and indoor veggies gonna put some tomatoes and peppers in the small tent too.

Being cheap is not a problem as long as it fulfills the purpose and looking at it, it is going to do the job efficiently for your babies.

Im happy you found one that was cheaper! I wish i could grow. What a dumb law they nade in nevada, well vegas. You cant grow if your within 25 miles of a dispensary... ya

·

I am sadly breaking the law as I am in an Illegal state but now that my kids are grown and I don't have to worry about losing them, I have nothing to lose as unjust laws should not be followed unless you can be put to death for it. (Yep some countries being caught with cannabis can cost you your life.)

I am happy for you. Bigger tents, bigger friends!

·

Now I got to rearrange some things so it fits..

·
·

gotta' set some priorities … Well, time for a spring clean anyways, right?!

·
·
·

Yep and it is way past time I unpack the rest of the stuff in the one corner of my room after all I moved in a year ago.

But, your lights are weak and that's why plants are tall. They're lacking light. You're fixing the wrong problem. In a couple of weeks of time, you'll have the same problem as now.

·

I ordered 3 of these as it was the best ones I could afford on my budget they are a lot stronger that the other lights I have been using but in a few months the system I am gonna build will rival expensive $800 systems.

So, you spent $150 on shitty lights that suck 900w altogether??? Seriously??? For the same amount of money 250w HPS gives you more light, more yield and lower bills... Fuck it, do it right or do it twice...

·
·
·

It went up after I bought them and I only paid $25 a piece for them. The other lights I looked up cost twice the amount these did. These are disposable panels and not what I plan to keep in my tents. I truly only plan to use these for 8 to 10 weeks max. And they will get the job done. Plus people keep saying I don't have enough light in the other tent so I thought I would mix and match in the tents and get them both to have enough light. Till the ones we are making get built. Plus the light fixture for HPS cost twice what these costs me.

Led works great. So many advantages to hps but also disadvantages.

·
·

Nothing against LEDs. I'd love some, but I'd never buy LEDs just for the sake of LEDs. Good are out of my budget, cheap are below my needs. The price for 60x60cm setup with LEDs with aiming to get 250g per grow would be 2/3 of price of my big tent with 600HPS in which I get half a kilo.

Let's put numbers on the paper...

·
·
·

Yeah I do wish I could afford the kind1000, but it’s easier for me to spend less but more frequent. I know for my setup a hps will make my temp soar to high 90,s easy! So definitely not an option. I live in California and we have some of the worlds best outdoor conditions, but due to living in apartment I am unable to one outside. Nothing compare to the sun, and the best weed of my life has been outdoors from the nearby mountains.

Don't get me wrong, my first set up was 250w CFL in 50x100x180cm old closet with a poor 25w exhaust fan and one monkey fan, not even oscilating. I had to make all ventilation holes and sort out hangers and wiring. I spent cca 200 quid and got 100g.
Since then I'm constantly upgrading my space. First on the list was light. I crammed 250w HPS inside and got 160g in next grow despite being roasted at 32-34*C for a worrying amount of time. But, then I got 95w overkill exhaust fan and active intake to improve airflow. My first posts on smoke beta and steem were from this setup.
And so on, I bought this 1x1x2m only last summer. Current grow is literally my second grow in this tent. And bigger tent brought more expenses. Old reflector, intake and monkey fans were too small now, so I had to replace them.

I didn't get my equipment over night. I know how expensive it is and I was always strategically fixing the weakest links. When you don't what you're doing it's even more. Not to mention all kinds of meters, jugs, pipettes and shitload of things that you just use. It's cool to brag with digitally controlled exhaust, 660w light and no less than half a kilo yields but it took me years to get here...

Cheap LEDs have no advantage over a HPS system.
Good LEDs have no disadvantage over a HPS system.
Source

0.25 per Watt for 600W HPS (1.26µmol/W)
0.5$ per Watt for red/blue LEDs (1.2µmol/W)
1.0-1.5$ per Watt for DIY LED (2.0µmol/W)
2-3$ per Watt prebuild LED (2.0µmol/W)

For a low budget grow a HPS system is the best system, because it is the cheapest light source and gives also better results, than the red/blue LED scam lights.

Those 300W LED lights only draw 50W. You need 12 of those so called 300W scam lights, to get the same performance as one 600W HPS, keep this in mind.

If your budget is bigger investing your money in a Bridgelux, Luminus or Samsung 3000K white LED setup, is best thing you can do.

For the medium budget a CMH setup is also interesting, because you get UV and IR in the spectrum.

·
·
·

Well your forgetting the extra cost for a cooling system. It’s so funny how people love to argue so they can prove there right. I never said hps were not better then led. I just said there are advantages and disadvantages. If you want to be real, the sun is the best light.

·
·
·

Except there are risks if a HPS bulb breaks as they have mercury in them And the fixture cost $150 alone and the ones people are linking me are for systems that cost $150 plus $113 USD for shipping. I don't have that type of money and that doesn't even include the bulbs that can be an enviromental hazard if broke. There are many ways to travel some place doesn't make the way I prefer to travel wrong. I just prefer LED and even when I make my array I am gonna be using LED because I am a clutz and am not gonna risk an enviromental spill.

·
·
·
·

You get a 600W HPS system second hand for under 100$ or when you know the right people also for free.

Every Dollar you spend for the red/blue scam lights is a wasted Dollar.

I have health issues and the risks of the HPS bulbs are not worth it to me if they were to break so what if I don't get a huge yield I am growing for myself not to supply anyone. But the dangers of the mercury in those bulbs are not worth it to me and many people get decent yields off growing with LED Full Spectrum Lighting. Just because I am doing it differently doesn't make it wrong. But the dangers of Mercury if I were to break a bulb and because I fall all the time because of my health issues risking these things are not what I am willing to do.

Limited Exposure

Exposure to elemental mercury in even small amounts can negatively affect a person's health. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some symptoms of mild exposure to mercury include, but are not limited to insomnia, headache, mood changes, muscle atrophy and irritability.

Extended Exposure

Overexposure to the elemental mercury in certain types of light bulbs can be fatal. Extended exposure to mercury can result in respiratory or kidney failure. Death can also be a side effect of overexposure to elemental mercury. People that have been exposed to any level of mercury should seek medical help immediately.
Factors

Severity of symptoms associated with mercury exposure depend on several factors. Some factors that determine the severity of side effects from mercury exposure include a person's overall health, duration of exposure, route of exposure like ingestion or inhalation and the age of the person that has been exposed. Fetuses have the greatest chance of experiencing negative side effects when exposed to elemental mercury.
Safety

A broken mercury-containing light bulb poses obvious health risks to people in close proximity. If a mercury-containing light bulbs breaks, everyone should exit the room for about 20 minutes and give the elemental mercury a chance to dispel throughout the room. Fresh air, if possible, should be introduced by opening a window.

Except there are risks if a HPS bulb breaks as they have mercury in... ...can be an enviromental hazard if broke.

Not impossible, but if you care properly i.e. don't throw it around, keep it in box when not in use, it's impossible. Never happened to me.
On the other hand cheap LED can set your house on fire which is IMO bigger environmental hazard than amount of mercury in a bulb and makes you homeless. Happened to one customer of mine. He's not homeless, he stopped the fire.

And the fixture cost $150 alone and the ones people are linking me are for systems that cost $150 plus $113 USD for shipping

What's the price for:

  • 2x tent
  • 2x lights
  • 2x everything...

·
·
·
·
·

$220 all together so far with free shipping for all of it. That includes the fans and hydrometers too. And I fall all the time because of my health issues. The concern of mercury is more of a concern for me than a fire is. And that company you keep linking wants $113 shipping to my country.

·
·
·
·
·
·

My only link is for seed sale, I'm not linking any light systems...
Anyways, you didn't get my point about prices
$220 - $75 (your lights) + $263 (recommended lights + shipping) = $408
$408 is the price for piece of mind.

In your case,
$220 + $56.65 = $276.65

You're $57 closer to $408 and haven't moved from the start.

What I don't understand is, you're paying $800/monthly for meds for 17 years.
That's $163 200!! And now you can't invest fuckin $500 for your own benefit.
Imagine investing $13 200 over 17 years in equipment and saving $150 000 and even earning something on the side.

No you are missing what I said about the numbers all my equipment not just the lights the tents, the lights, the hydrometers the fans all of it together I paid $220 not for just the lights. And the site for seeds you are sharing sells the lights and the shipping is high af
I paid $100 in all for my lights the tents cost me just over $100 and the total for everything was $220 dude. The fact is I am still buying cannabis on the black market. I can either go without my fucking medicine to do what you are fucking wanting me to do for 16 fucking weeks which will drive me to kill myself from not being able to hand the fucking pain. Or I can do it cheap then improve my grow as I no longer have to buy my cannabis. Do you FUCKING get that now?
I know how much I been spending each year that is why when my babies become of age I decided to start growing.Which wasn't something I was willing to risk while they were growing up because Cannabis is Illegal where I live and I wasn't gonna risk getting busted and them put into Foster Care. I am not scared of Jail but I was scared of them being put into Foster Care, as I know from experience what that is like. But my body while waiting to grow my own medicine has deteriorated more and the pain I suffer from without treatment it drives one to want to kill themselves. I can not go the length of a grow without treatment. I also because of the expense of it don't have even $500 extra dollars to invest in it, even if I stopped my giveaways on here I still couldn't afford it as those items I get made for free and even with the shipping costs it would take me a year of no giveaways to save the money you think I should invest.
I am done with this conversation and will no longer respond to it cussing doesn't get anyone anywhere and to be real just pisses people off. Your way is a good way to grow but so is with LED many many people grow with LED across the world Successfully. Just because someone does things a different way does not make it wrong. It just makes it different.

And that company you keep linking sells lights also not just seeds and they want $113 to ship them.

Wow a 4x4 feet grow tent is huge, which needs a lot of light.

·

I couldn't find a 24x48x80 or would have went with that instead of the option that makes me have to rearrange my room so it works. I just needed taller but couldn't find anything other than 72 inches in the 24x48 size. So it is what it is and it just means there is plenty of room for some lettuce tomatoes and peppers.

Nice! I 💚 my tent! Tents are like closets to Narnia!

·

I am excited to have two to be real I will now have the room for vegging and flowering at the same time.
