HOLY SHIT ! ....... Shocking Worm Attack On The Green Poison Buds Shortly Before Harvest !

last month

Hey Guys!

Today has been a shock!!!

The flushing of the 2 Green Poison started 4 days ago and I was meaning to harvest both at the end of the coming week. I was really shock at what I saw during inspection of the buds...I found some worms lurking at the buds of the smaller plant. Panicking, I inspected more buds and I found there were other worms. They look like small caterpillar although they are brown which seemed to have just started to get bigger. There were not much of them perhaps around 5, probably they just hatched since they were still small.

Surprised Harvest

I had to harvest the top buds where I found them.. although the flushing is still going on and I need at least 4 more days. I thought, it´s better to harvest now before they damage the whole buds overnight.

Trimming Process

I put the branch in this vase to inspect more if there were worms... after which I brought it in the kitchen to do the trimming. The worms I found were located in the inner most part of the buds so I inspected this lot and found 2 more. I think the hatch happened yesterday, I do inspect the buds daily and I didn´t see any worm yesterday afternoon. They grow so fast when they are hatched so I have to cut down the top branch immediately...I will cut more today if necessary, otherwise I could continue the flushing process.

Remedy- Eradicating The Worms

I only cut the leaves below to see if there are more worms lurking in between the leaves, they are not yet done, but I think I save this lot. The rest of the plant would have to be inspected to insure that there are no worms anymore.. If so, I intend to blanch the buds in a hot water ( maybe at 40°C
, in just seconds) to be sure the worms would surface on the top of the water. I do not think that the hot water would do damage to the buds, they might get a temp shock but I think that´s all. I would quickly hang them in an airy window for them to get dry... then I will start the trimming process.

I´ll keep you posted and an update will follow..... In the meantime....

... keep puffin´ for a high!

Joys of outdoor grows! You’ll be fine! Way to stay on top the crop!

·

Yes my friend.. I'll stay foot and go over the buds one by one..It is a tedious job but it'll be fine... thanks!

Oh! WTF! kill them, they are destroying your buds @indaymers.. They want to be the first to benefit and now they start on puffing it. Try to ask everyone here how to avoid that kind of worm.. @unnamed do you have an idea about it?

·

No. Grow indoors from seed and hydroponics is pretty much the only method which is rather guaranteed bugs free.

Anything else can often attract nature, especially outdoor grows. With clones the larvae can be in the soil you get the clone with — larger clones producers will have less oversight — larvae can be in the soil you buy, birds may have dropped them in flight... it’s nature.

If we love them flowers that much, surely can’t blame the bugs for liking them either? But @indaymers is late in the flushing stage already. The pistils are a darker’ish orange already so except for maybe a little less “couchlock” effect there should not be too big a problem if she can isolate all worms.

Cure some days longer to get rid of any potential chemicals, but if I remember her grow from beginning she didn’t use aggressive chemical nutes so there shouldn’t be much of left over nutrients flavoring anyway.

The buds will be fine. As long as she can get rid of the extra meat in them. 😅

Note re-color: with Indicas, the darker the pistils before harvesting, the higher the “couchlock” (sedative) effect of the flowers. Growers who love a good couchlock will start flushing 7-10 days later, when the pistils are very “milky” already.

Indeed, I only use 2 commercial feeds Terra vega and Terra Flores plus ground eggs and used ground coffee and tea leaves. I didn't bother to check the ph level of our tap water since the city water is drinkable and has a ph level between 6.5 - 8.0. I thought it over..my top terrace had always butterflies flying around the flowers of my container veggies.. so could be they laid eggs on the soil.
The hydroponics may be a good method but I have a small place and the terrace is the only place to grow the weeds.. I tried once to grow indoor, the problem is air circulation and the pot's soil have had parasites like gnats..

I'd surely go over the buds one by one and see whether there are still worms present...
Thanks for the tips and for replying to @lawlai's query..

Your plants look healthy. All of those you’ve shown. And they even survived a massive hailstorm. Enjoy that you have the bugs, it means you live in a healthy natural location rather than a polluted city.

Outdoor growing is both easier and more difficult, comes with more natural challenges.

Ground coffee is effective to keep a lot of bugs away. I’m not surprised you used that, somehow I expected you would know of that. :)

Btw apologies for the 42% upvote [on the trail]. I was writing as I checked posts for a link and had an accidental double click before I could 100%. Our trail does not retroactively adapt if a vote is removed and revoted.

Lol, no worries, it is still a support from you and thanks for that btw.

·
·

Just this moment I read your reply and so much appreciated @unnamed. I know @indaymers will be satisfied with your answers to my question. It is also my guide someday. I will keep it in my mind.

·

Hahaha.. no stress @lawlai, do not worry I am on the watch and I am sure the problem will be solved... I am just wondering if these worms would become high when they eat the buds?Lololol!

·
·

That’s an interesting question. Do worms have an endocannabinoid system? 🤔

·
·
·

That is the thing..... if ever they get too much THC intake will they get an overdoze and die off?Lol!

·
·
·
·

Well... you could test it out by putting those nugs 3 seconds in the microwave. Not sure if you will be able to track if they got high but you will have the first recorded marijuana casualties. 😂

·

or make a pet of it safely away from your weed? :D lol

·
·

Who knows when they become a pet, they might develop into a Monarch Butterfly... just give them lots of cannabis buds until they grow completely into a huge example... maybe from being high, they´ll become more exotic.

·

caterpillar rehab lol

Spray some soap bubbles @indaymers! It won't harm the buds and it will keep away insects from advancing deeper.

·

Can you smoke the soap?

·
·

no, it's also typically harmful to aquatic life - caustic perhaps, avoid spraying soap on your weed lol

·
·
·

Yeah, not the terps you’re looking for.

·
·

It's a natural insect prevention and can be washed out away easily. Those kind of worms are mighty eaters really. But I guess @indaymers have already found a way to get rid of them. It's good that it was discovered earlier else it would have been a great loss.

·
·
·

If you wash out your buds you will lose trichomes.

·

I had been there with the soap bubbles ... the only thing that eradicated the fungus in one of the girls is the mixture of baking soda and water. Both are organic.. I never used pesticides to combat parasites. So I guess what is left is to go over the buds one by one and see if worms are still lurking on them.

Hi friend!!! I just been removing worms of my crop too!! 🐛🐛🐛

·

Really, so they are so rampant nowadays, I guess that is the time of the year when the larvae are totally out.

ahehehe, you will be the first to witness, worms be groggy or will they after eating your crops....natures way.

·

Hey, that's a good idea. @indaymers, why not make one experiment of that worm and cannabis tandem? For tobacco planters, it is said that those with holes have stronger smoke/taste. I guess the same applies to marijuana. That's only my opinion.

·

haha :D

wot?
the toughest worm I now know but just let them enjoy puffing, I think mj is for everybody, lol!
smoke on!

·

tougher than earth worm jim?

·
·

From what I saw today while inspecting the buds consumed by the caterpillars, there were dark particles in and around the buds and I assumed those were the poohs, hahaha!
Trichomes should deter the attack of insects because of its pungent aroma...But I think the little devils knew this that is why they didn´t touch any of the leaves near the buds because they might get stuck, the leaves are so sticky, intelligent caterpillars! Lololol

That's going to be a mightily stoned caterpillar! 🐛

·

My God so funny... weeds with dried caterpillar,, jejejeje @indaymers

waaaaah!!! sometimes i get scared of worms depending on the itsura.. mukhang malambot yang nag attack sa buds mo po , yung mga nakita ko dito hairy 😰, pero sabi nga nila mahalaga pa rin sa ecosystem ang mga worms hehe. so siguro they really enjoyed your babies kasi well grown , malusog na malusog ang mga dahon .. i've read other comments and as they say only indoors growing can prevent worms .. but i know for aure you can handle this creature 😘💚💚💚

Ang lambot lambot ng worm Mas Lalo na ihalo sa roll
