I've often longed to be able to get high in the sky (no, eating edibles before the flight doesn't count). I'm not saying we spark up in the plane (though we could set up a vape section) I just thought this was very interesting news given the number of States where Cannabis is legal.
LAX Announces New Marijuana Policy
While federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana (inclusive of federal airspace,) California’s passage of proposition 64, effective January 1, 2018, allows for individuals 21 years of age or older to possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal consumption. In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Department will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. However, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel.
This is great news if you flew in to Cali, scored more than you could smoke and wanted to bring some home (depending on where you live of course).
A great article about this came out yesterday on Travel Wire Asia and does a great job breaking it all down. They also mention at the bottom of the article the recent news regarding Malaysia & Thailand that I wrote about previously.
Some Good Advice
For example, if you are traveling between two destinations where marijuana is legal, such as California and Alaska, you would probably not get busted. But if your flight is going from LAX to somewhere in Asia where it is not legal, then you are subject to local laws.
